Statement:
These pieces are about discovering concept through the physical art making. I find relief in working on a large scale. A diverse array of themes and visual motifs all loosely related to recent exposure urban life had an influence on me, such as transportation, language, buildings, infrastructure, finding order within chaos, communication, progress, interaction, life, trends, speed, innovation, and motion.
Intelligence:
I usually struggle with this area because on one hand I have conceptual ideas that I want to make art about, but on the other hand I tend to get too caught up in concept and forget to be realistic. I discover my concepts throughout the process of making the work.
Investment:
Although I invested a lot of time into these paintings, I wish I had even more. From getting the wood and tools to construct the panels, to constructing the panels themselves, to transporting them around, to refining the recipe for the textures, to actually painting, this was a time—and space—consuming project. Despite this, there were days that felt less productive than others.
Guyer:
I like that you are willing to GO BIG! You took the initiative to make yourself stand out by working on this scale. It's ambitious, and it will demand attention. Your work ethic and dedication is very clear.
Not all work needs to be deeply conceptual or theoretical. Art about color, line, and arrangement is just as valid as anything made by conceptual artists. What I'm most interested in is this........ The dedicated investigation of something. Whether it be an idea or a certain aesthetic, I'm curious to see what happens when you explore something deeply.
