Diego Sanchez is an artist from Bogota, Colombia. He earned his MFA from VCU in 1990 and currently lives in Richmond. I was initially attracted to his amalgamation of representational with nonrepresentational elements within each painting. On his site, he describes painting as "interesting, frusterating, rewarding, humbling, and enjoyable". I found that I can relate to his process of priming panels and applying large areas of color before devloping the surface. Above are a few of my favorites from I had the unique opportunity of meeting Diego Sanchez at Page Bond Gallery in Richmond. Sanchez had two paintings featured in Mary Scurlock's exhibition: Mary Scurlock and Concerning Line.
